Who We Are
Healthcare that reaches the most vulnerable
Tanzania has world-class specialist hospitals. But for most families outside Dar es Salaam — and for low-income families within it, the cost of accessing that care is an impossible barrier. Children with brain tumours, orthopaedic conditions, and other life-threatening illnesses go untreated not because treatment doesn't exist, but because families cannot afford it.
The Choplife Foundation Healthcare Programme removes that barrier. Working directly with Muhimbili National Hospital and the Muhimbili Orthopaedic Institute, we identify and fund treatment for children from the most vulnerable families — covering surgery, hospital stays, and the full cost of care.

What Support Includes
End-to-end support for the child and family
Treatment funding
We cover the direct costs of specialist medical care, surgeries, hospital stays, diagnostic procedures, and ongoing treatment, removing the financial barrier between a child and recovery.
Caregiver support
We recognise that a sick child is never sick alone. Our programme accounts for the burden placed on caregivers, particularly single parents, who travel and wait alongside their children.
Hospital partnership
We work directly at the hospital level, with Muhimbili National Hospital (MNH) and the Muhimbili Orthopaedic Institute (MOI), to ensure support reaches the right families quickly.
Where we work
Children who have nowhere else to turn
Support is directed to children and families who face the greatest financial barriers to care, typically those without health insurance, without proximity to specialist hospitals, or without the savings to absorb medical costs.

How Support is Delivered
Direct delivery at the hospital
Identification
Cases are identified through hospital referrals, community networks, and direct outreach to families in need.
Supported with critical medical conditions
Twenty-two children, with conditions including brain tumours, cerebral palsy, orthopaedic injuries, and other life-threatening illnesses, have received life-saving treatment through the Choplife Foundation Healthcare Programme. Each one came from a family that could not have covered these costs alone.

Age 9
Brain condition
Came from a single-income family. Referred to MNH for specialist surgery. The Foundation covered the full cost of treatment and the family's stay in Dar es Salaam.
Age 13
Complex treatment
Traveled from the Songwe Region, nearly 900km, for specialist care. The Foundation supported the full treatment journey from admission through to discharge.
Age 4
Surgical care
Raised by a single mother with no additional family support. Received paediatric surgical care at MOI, with the Foundation covering all associated costs.
